The Manic Miner® application represents a faithful digital recreation of the classic 1983 ZX Spectrum platform game, renowned for its significance in the evolution of the genre and its cultural impact in the 1980s. Featuring 3D voxel-style graphics, this version offers both portrait and landscape display modes, enhancing versatility in gameplay presentation.

Developed using the ZX Spectrum: Elite Collection technology, the app preserves the original game’s soundscape, including its distinctive music—such as "In the Hall of the Mountain King"—and authentic sound effects. Notably, the game supports user-definable controls through iDaptive features, allowing customization of joystick, keypad, and canvas inputs to cater to individual preferences.

Players can enjoy a comprehensive experience with options such as auto-saving progress upon exit and an in-game pause feature to facilitate strategic gameplay. The game is available as an in-app purchase priced at £2.99 within the Recreated ZX Spectrum app, which includes additional ZX Spectrum titles and Sinclair BASIC functionalities. Alternatively, a standalone version is available for purchase, offering the full experience without additional titles.

The game includes twenty meticulously designed chambers, each presenting unique challenges and thematic environments—from The Cold Room to The Final Barrier. Core gameplay involves collecting flashing objects within each chamber while avoiding enemies such as Poisonous Pansies, Spiders, Slime, and autonomous Manic Mining Robots. Timing jumps and movements with precision is essential to prevent falls or collisions that result in losing lives. Extra lives are awarded incrementally every 10,000 points scored.
